OVERVIEW:
The Tropicana Las Vegas has been a player on the Vegas Strip for many, many years. It’s located on the busiest intersection on the Strip. The MGM Grand, New York, New York and Excalibur occupy the other three corners (all of which are connected by overhead pedestrian bridges). In recent years, the Tropicana has undergone a major renovation moving from a classic tropical theme to a new, vibrant South Beach style. This new transformation has brought the Tropicana resort back to life with a new energy and a fun atmosphere. Now, they just need to add more bars.
HISTORY:
The Tropicana opened in April of 1957. This tropical inspired resort was immediately linked to organized crime when the NYPD found documents, on a wounded mob figure, outlining cash payouts from the Tropicana casino. In 1974 and again in 1975, the Tropicana was once again linked to mobsters, this time from Detroit and Chicago respectively. After a major FBI operation in the late 1970s and early 1980s, several mobsters were indicted in Kansas City for illegally skimming money from the hotel. Through it all, the Tropicana continued to prosper and expand. Its famous Follies Bergere show, which debuted in 1960 with a cast of 80 people, entertained people for nearly 50 years. The Tropicana was a favorite spot for many early Hollywood celebrities. Many entertainers got their big break here at the resort. The Tropicana is a true Las Vegas landmark.
FACTS & TIDBITS:
1. Bond, James Bond, played by Sean Connery, stayed at the Tropicana in the feature film "Diamonds Are Forever".

2. The Tropicana Las Vegas had the very first Ambhar Lounge. As the name implied, it served authentic, handcrafted, 100% Blue Agave Ambhar Tequila. The Ambhar Lounge has now been changed to the Tropicana Lounge, but at last check, they still serve Ambhar Tequila.
